Self-Hosted Architecture

SiteVault runs entirely from your WordPress install — no external dashboard, no SaaS dependency, no monthly billing relationship required. Your backups, your servers, your cloud. Jetpack Backup requires an active Automattic subscription to function.

No Per-Site SaaS Metering

One annual license covers your tier. $49/yr for one site, $129/yr for five, $299/yr for unlimited. No per-site monthly bill, no storage-cap upgrade path that pushes you onto a $299/year plan. Five sites on the per-site SaaS model would cost roughly six times more annually.

Bring-Your-Own Cloud

Six destination types: Amazon S3, S3-compatible (Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Spaces), Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, FTP/SFTP. Pick the region, pick the retention, pick the provider you already trust. Jetpack stores backups only on Automattic infrastructure.

Built-In Staging + Push to Live

One-click staging environment creation from any backup, with push-to-production and sync-from-live workflows. Available on every Pro tier from $49/year. Jetpack Backup is purely backup — staging is not part of the product.

Site Health Monitoring

Business+ adds six-check monitoring: SSL certificate expiry, disk usage, PHP error log volume, database health, plugin update lag, and Core Web Vitals. Jetpack splits these across separate paid modules (Scan, Stats) — not part of the Backup product.

Alert Channels (Slack / Discord / Webhook)

Agency tier routes backup events and Site Health incidents to Slack channels, Discord servers, or custom webhooks — plus weekly HTML health reports. Jetpack Backup notifications are email-only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Jetpack Backup faster than SiteVault?

Jetpack VaultPress Backup is real-time — every post update, comment, and settings change is captured as it happens, which is genuinely strong for high-velocity WooCommerce stores. SiteVault is scheduled, with hourly as the minimum interval on Pro plans. For most non-WooCommerce sites, hourly or daily scheduled backups are more than sufficient. For high-volume stores where losing 15 minutes of orders is unacceptable, Jetpack's real-time architecture has the edge.

Why does the pricing model matter?

Jetpack VaultPress Backup is billed per site per month as a SaaS subscription — $4.95/mo or $59.40/year per site. SiteVault is a one-time annual license: $49/year for one site, $129/year for five sites, $299/year for unlimited. Five sites on Jetpack costs $297/year — close to the entire Jetpack Complete plan price. Predictable annual pricing matters when you scale.

Where do my backups actually live?

Jetpack stores all backups on Automattic's cloud infrastructure — you do not choose the region, the provider, or the retention beyond plan limits. SiteVault is bring-your-own cloud: connect Amazon S3, S3-compatible (Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, Wasabi), Google Cloud Storage, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or FTP/SFTP. You own the storage account, you control the region, and your backup files live in infrastructure you already trust.

Can I migrate from Jetpack Backup to SiteVault?

Yes. Download your latest Jetpack backup from your Jetpack dashboard while the subscription is still active. Install and activate SiteVault Pro, configure your cloud destination, and run a fresh full backup. Verify the backup, then cancel your Jetpack subscription. We recommend keeping at least one Jetpack-era restore download archived locally for the first 30 days after switching.

What about WooCommerce real-time backups?

Honest answer: Jetpack's real-time WooCommerce backup is purpose-built — every order, every cart change, every refund is captured the moment it happens. If you run a high-volume store where seconds of lost order data is a serious business problem, Jetpack VaultPress Backup is a defensible choice. SiteVault is WooCommerce-aware (orders, customers, subscriptions are included in standard backups) but operates on scheduled intervals. Most stores doing under a few hundred orders a day are well served by hourly scheduled backups.

Ready to Own Your Backups?

Self-hosted backups with bring-your-own cloud, built-in staging, AES-256-GCM encryption, and Site Health monitoring. One annual price, no per-site SaaS metering. Plans starting at $49/year.
